FAQs
Where can I park?
There is NO parking in the staff parking lot at École Van Walleghem School on race day as this area is reserved for our timer and paramedics. There are many residential streets right around the school though! Please try Queens Park Crescent, Kingsborough Drive, Princemere Road, Wallingford Crescent, or Woodington Bay. We also have a bike rack available at the entrance to the school.
What time do the races start?

The 10 km begins at 9:30 AM and the 5K begins at 9:35 AM. The Mighty Mile begins at 9 AM.
Is there water or toilets provided on the course?

We have a water station at the halfway point (or first lap) of the 10K. While we don’t have porta-potties on the course, we do have indoor bathrooms available inside of École Van Walleghem School before and after the race.
Who exactly is the Mighty Mile for?

The Might Mile is popular with children who aren’t quite ready yet to run a 5K and with adults looking for shorter run. The course consists of running 2 laps around the school and park’s path and up the hill. We also have a costume contest before the start of the Mighty Mile so please feel encouraged to run in a costume! Children will be given a “loot bag” upon completion of the Mighty Mile.
Do you provide any child-care services at the race?
No, we do not. Children must be supervised at all times and remain with an adult or caregiver.
Is the LWFC sanctioned with the Manitoba Runners’ Association (MRA)? Is it a chip timed race?
Yes to both! The LWFC is sanctioned by MRA. The 10 km is an MRA Classic Series event while the 5K and Mighty Mile are MRA Youth Series events.
Is the Course Certified?
Yes! The 5 km and 10 km course are measured and certified accurate by Athletics Manitoba.
My friend is running the 5K and I’m running the 10K. Can we start at the same time?
No. Due to the chip timing and need for accurate timing, we need for you to start your race at your designated time.
Does Everyone Get a Medal or Commemorative Gift?
We award medals to the top 3 winners in each race and each race category
(Women, Youth Males, etc.). Because we are a charity-based event (meaning that ALL of our proceeds go to charity), we do not have the funds unfortunately to give medals to all. We also want to consider the environment and the carbon footprint we are leaving behind. However, ALL participants will be given a quality commemorative gift!
Can I participate with my dog, skateboard or scooter?

No, for the safety of all participants, dogs, skateboards, and bicycles are not permitted on the course.
Can I participate with my stroller?

Yes, we just ask that you start at the back so that the race doesn’t become
congested. We also ask that you keep to the side when possible and give the right of way to the runners/walkers wanting to pass you. This also applies to the finish line area.
Can I get a refund if I become ill or injured?
No, we don’t offer refunds due to costs associated with organizing the event. However, we do allow for event changes.
How does the Pasta Lunch work? Are there snacks available?
The pasta lunch is free for all participants! Please head to the gym inside École Van Walleghem School after the race. For those who prefer a lighter fare, we will also be serving bagels, fruit, and hot coffee.
Can I register on the day of the race?
We do allow for day-of registration but can’t guarantee that there will still be
room. Please arrive early (between 7:30-8:00 AM) to register.

Is it true that this race has the best hills in the city?
Yes! We do have the biggest hills in the city! This race provides a great workout for those needing some hill training before an upcoming half-marathon, marathon, or those wanting a personal best at an upcoming race.
